Yesterday many operators converged on the Air Tahiti Nui check-in counter at Los Angeles Airport: Carsten, Tonno, Eric, Harry, Andy, Andre, and Dietmar. They boarded the TN 021 flight to Papeete, on time and uneventful. After 8.5 hours they were greeted at the airport by other operators who arrived on different flights earlier in the day: Les, Robert, Milt... and by local Polynesian radio operators William FO5JV, Michel FO5QB and Dani FO5QJ.

Andre DL8LAS failed to discover his suitcase at baggage claim in Tahiti. Although promised for this morning's delivery, it in fact is still in Los Angeles. It will travel to Tahiti tonight, but arrive two hours later than the team's departure to Mangareva. Andre is presently visiting shops in Papeete to get some clothing for the trip to Ducie.

Our Polynesian friends brought us to the hotel, where we soon crashed into the horizontal position for some well-deserved sleep. Some of the European operators had been traveling for more than 30 hours.

Finally the operators are all in one place -- except Robin, who is waiting for us aboard the "Braveheart", now on anchor in Mangareva. Sleep was short: after five hours came a beautiful sunrise, over the lagoon. Temperature stands at 26C.

In a few minutes the team meets for breakfast, and later this morning will explore Tahiti with our Polynesian friends. This afternoon includes a lunch and team planning meeting.

Tomorrow morning at 4am local time we leave the civilized hotel resort life for the airport once more, this time to fly to Mangareva and to the "Braveheart".

Frequencies:

After a review of reports from Europe and North America, VP6DX will move the 75m SSB transmit frequency to 3781 kHz. The 160m CW transmit frequency also moves to 1826.3 kHz.
